This tour takes you to Kuusamo’s calming forest with the Icelandic horses for an hour. You’ll get to try some tölt and trot, climb hills and wander between the trees. More experienced riders can try cantering on the forest paths.
The one-hour tour suits everyone, no matter the age or level of riding skills. This tour is all about getting a little taste of the wonderful Icelandic horses. One-hour tours are available for booking all year aroud.

It is located next to the main farm saunas only few meters from the lake. From the windows there is a beautiful views to the Lake Kuusamo and to the horses pastures. In the lodge there is a kitchenet, twin bed and fireplace. Toilet is at next door and it is a nice and clean composting toilet with no bad scent. After a good night sleep it is nice to take a cooling swim before all the days activities.

Walking peacefully in the forest, enjoying the horse’s movements, trying tölt and getting to know the Icelandic horses. Or the joy of gallop, the magic of tölt and wandering on the narrow forest paths. The two-hour trail riding tour is our most popular tour: it fits everyone no matter one’s age or riding skills.
For beginners, the two-hour tour starts with a short introduction of horses and how one drives them: what aids to use to get the horse to walk, stop and so on. After the intro, there’s still more than enough time to get used to the movement of horses and start enjoying the feeling of being on the horses back. You may get to try tölt or trot also, if you feel like it. Even those who are a bit nervous, have time to relax on our safe Icelandics and start feeling the joy and wonder of riding a horse.
More experienced riders can enjoy the two hours in a faster pace, tölting, trotting, cantering and galloping through the beautiful nature of Kuusamo. The most daring ones can gallop on more narrow paths between the tall pines and spruces. During the two hours you get to know your horse companion, as they are all different characters. In the summer, the tours end by cooling the horses down in the refreshing water of lake Kuusamo.
This tour is a great option during the whloe year. In the winter, we get to enjoy the fresh air and bright snow. Our trails travel both in the deeper snow, where the horses have made the path and your feet might touch the snow and on the roads with less snow to increase the speed. Spring is the time of sunshine and new life. In the summer we are able to use all of our trails and will most likely see reindeer and other animals. Autumn offers it’s beautiful colours and amazing views that are best to see on a Icelandic horse!

Villa Raatteenranta is located just next to Wanha Raatesalmi farm. It is a three story house and has 250m2. it has been built at 1950’s and has been fully renovated at 2015. From windows there are views to the lake and for the horses pastures. You can still sence the old times in the decoration. Many of the pieces are herited from our grand parents who also lived in 1950’s house.
In Villassa Raatteenranta there are beds for 12 people and with extra beds it can accommodate up to 18 people. It is very suitable for families with children, There are 2 fully equipped kithcens, 4 toilets and 2 bathrooms, 1 dining room and livingroom.
Guests can also use two saunas that are located on the farm just by the lake Kuusamo. In the bigger sauna fits 10-12 people and in the smaler 4-6 people. At the Saunas terrace there is a barbegue. Close to the sauna you can also find two places for open fire.
Use of the rowing boat is also incluuded to the price. If you like you can also book a bigger boat with captein to take you for example fishng.

Find your Zen from the silence and darkness of the night
If you want to experience something else, this tour is for you. When the arctic night falls, we gather the group in our stables and get on our trusted Icelandic horses.
Our guide will lead you through dark and silent winter forest wilderness. There is no head lamps, no flashlights, no light pollution, only our eyes and instincts will lead us through the dark forest. First it will be dark, really dark. Within few minutes your eyes start to adapt to the darkness. After ten minutes you’re able to see rather well – snowy forest, small path, stars in the sky and above all the most faithful friend carrying you through the silent winter forest. For the people living city life this is really something you will never forget.
If there’s a moon, it’ll provide some light and if there are no clouds you’re able to see Milky Way or aurora borealis with your own eyes more clearly than in most parts of the world.

In this three hours long trail riding tour you get to enjoy the gorgeous nature of Kuusamo and the wonderful Icelandic horses for a longer time period. Our trail travel through variable terrain, in which you get to try the softness of tölt and the sway of canter. The surrounding forest is filled with pure air and there is hanging moss all around. Kuusamo has one of the cleanest airs in the world.
The three-hour trail riding tour is a good option, when you want to be on horseback for a longer time, but you’re worried how your backside will hold up. The tour starts with arriving to the stable, choosing the horses and gearing them up. After that, it’s go time. Depending on the weather and the group, we can end the tour wading in a lake.

This tour gives you more time to see the nature, more tölt, more trot, more gallop and more in the first place. The tour heads to the beautiful spruce forests and edges of swamps. The summery forest shows it’s best sides, when you spend more time there.
The tour starts with arriving to the stable, deciding what horses everyone will ride and gearing them up. We’ll pack some snacks and coffee or tea with us in saddle bags. After this, we’ll mount to our horses and start our ride. It takes us to beautifull arctic forest, where we’ll be able to enjoy the pure air and our icelandic horses. The coffee break will be held at a suitable time. We can also stop and stretch our legs if needed. The tour can end to wading in the lake Kuusamo.

The beautiful and clean nature around you, tramping hooves and the scent of horses. A blue lake sparkling between the trees, blueberries on the ground and a relaxing atmosphere. These are the things Old Raatesalmi’s all day trail riding tours are made of.
The all day trail riding tour is an excellent choice for more experienced riders to enjoy the gorgeous nature of Finland with Icelandic horses. This tour takes us through variable terrain from evergreen forests to the edge of swamps and lakefronts. During the ride, you’ll get to try the soft tölt that covers distance enjoyably, rhythmic trot and gallop that makes the wind howl in your ears.
The tour includes a lunch break in the forest. We can also take other breaks, if the group wants to. The tour starts by gathering at the stable, where everyone is given a suitable horse based on a short interview. Then we’ll gear up the horses, pack the food to saddle backs and get up on the horses. Then we’ll start the tour and it’ll take about seven hours.

Do you want to experience something, you definitely can’t try evewhere? The summer is for having fun and enjoying to the fullest and what is a better way than to combine Icelandic horses and playing with water. So, just come to test riding in a lake and take part of our lake riding with Icelandics!
This ride takes you straight to the shore of the lake Kuusamo and we’ll take a dip to the lovely cooling and refreshing water. We’ll gear up the horses with only the bridle and leave the saddles to the stable. Thus you should have at least basic riding skills, because without a saddle the meaning of balance becomes even more prominent. After the horses are ready, we’ll put on our helmets, get on the horse and head to the lake.
We’ll ride in the lake for about an hour. If the group wants, we’ll go deep enough for the horses to really swim. Otherwise we’ll stay closer to the shore, so that the horses will walk or hop to move forward. The water will be up to the horses’ back’s so you’ll definitely get wet! For that reason it’s a good idea to wear a swimsuit or light clothes, that can get wet. And take a change of clothes! Shoes will be left to the shore.
